‘Tough Love’
Earlier this week we reported that Wolverhampton-born expat Carina Round is set to reissue her wonderful debut album The First Blood Mystery on vinyl later this year, having raised the funds in record time via Pledge Music. That led us to do a bit more digging around on these here internets, only to discover that Carina had finally released the long-promised debut EP from her side project Early Winters in early March. Forming the rest of the band are fellow Los Angeles resident Dan Burns and Zac Rae, plus Canadian singer-songwriter Justin Rutledge, and together on ‘Tough Love’ they make a relaxed and ripe for adult-alternative radio noise. It’s almost disappointingly straightforward – we’ve come to expect much more in the way of twists and angles from Carina – but there’s definitely an audience out there for it. It’s simply a matter of whether Early Winters can make themselves heard among the crowded pack of people doing the same sort of thing.
